A simple trick to help prevent accidents

We know that when you’re on the road, there are plenty of hazards that can pose a threat to your safety and that require our constant focus. To help you prevent accidents before they occur, we have a simple trick that will help keep you alert.

Staying safe on the road

When you’re about to get on the road, always remember ‘TACO’:

T – Time

Everyone needs time to react. If you anticipate what could happen next, you give yourself time to deal with hazards safely. Think of the extra space you leave between you and the vehicle ahead of you as having your personal escape route if it anything goes wrong.

A – Anticipation

By picking up on clues around you, you can anticipate the possible actions of other road users. For example, this might be a driver glancing in their mirror to change lanes, a shadow in a vehicle about to open a door, an ice cream van near a park where children might step out, or a bus stop where passengers may be crossing. This allows you to react appropriately and avoid unsafe situations.

C – Concentration

Distractions such as listening to music, using your phone or checking delivery addresses will all impact on your concentration levels. When working with Deliveroo you will use the app on your phone to receive orders and suggested directions.

Make sure the phone is always in a holder and that it is showing the route before starting your journey. Music in your ears or talking on your phone will detract from your ability to hear other road users.

O – Observation

Reading the road and observing information around you, for example paying attention to traffic signs and other drivers’ signals in your mirrors, will give you the clues to anticipate hazards. Be aware of your close surrounding, but always make sure to constantly scan what’s happening at least a few vehicles ahead of you.
