Your mobile phone
As a rider with Deliveroo, your phone and your vehicle are key pieces of equipment. But what are the rules when it comes to using your phone on the road?
It is illegal across Australia to use a phone while driving to talk, text, play games, take videos or photos, or to use any other function on your phone. It’s also illegal to use a phone when your vehicle is stationary but not parked, for example when you are stopped at traffic lights. Fines and demerit points apply to drivers breaking these rules.
A fully licensed motorbike or scooter rider can use a phone to make calls, receive calls and use GPS functionalities, as long as the phone:
- Is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle
- Can be operated without touching any part of the phone
Riders who have had their motorcycle license for less than three years, and drivers with a Learner, P1 or P3 license are not allowed to use a mobile phone at all while riding.
